Staple favorite Velvet debuts a fall collection perfect for off-duty dressing.
Velvet designers Toni Spencer and Jenny Graham.
For almost 20 years, LA-based brand Velvet has been bringing its version of casual cool to stores nationwide. With a fiercely loyal customer base who began as fans of the brand’s tees and tanks, it’s no surprise that designers Toni Spencer and Jenny Graham have been able to keep that following in an ever-changing retail landscape. “Toni and I design clothes that we would want to wear, and luckily people want to wear them, too!” says Graham.
Today, Velvet’s collection includes soft cotton and linen pieces; model Lily Aldridge fronts the brand (and has also designed a few collaborations with Spencer and Graham in the past). For the fall and holiday campaigns, Aldridge can be seen in ’70s-inspired styles, where standout pieces include a studded skinny jean (the Milla, Graham’s favorite), a William Morris and Arts and Crafts influenced printed shirt, and a faux shearling jacket, ideal for cozy beach walks. “It’s inspired by images of Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenberg that we had pinned up in the design room,” says Spencer.
The entire collection is layering-focused as usual, with offerings from classic tanks to nubby sweater vests. “We have strong ties and a lot of love for the West Coast, but we have a classic aesthetic that translates everywhere,” says Spencer. “And when you keep it classic, timeless investment pieces make getting dressed so easy. It’s like having a super chic uniform.” 56 Jobs Lane, Southampton, 204-0005
