Facialist to the stars Joanna Czech makes a triumphant return east—and sets up in Sag Harbor.
As a child in Poland, Joanna Czech never gave her dolls hairdos or outfit changes—instead, she would treat and heal their imaginary injuries. After moving to the States, she spent two decades as one of New York City’s prestige facialists. (A cameo in the Sex and the City movie and a glittering client roster—Anna Wintour, Cate Blanchett, Uma Thurman—didn’t hurt, either.) What sets her apart? Supporting the skin and not “abusing it” with aggressive treatments, she says. “I definitely personalize every treatment.” In 2015, Czech moved her operation to Dallas, but she’s back East this summer, working out of a private residence in Sag Harbor. Here, Czech speaks to treating the East End.
Her secret weapon: “My deep-tissue massage technique. I warm up the facial muscles and then massage one side of the face. I’ll show the client the other side so she can see the difference three to five minutes of massage can make. It’s like working out with a trainer.”
A word of advice: “I don’t believe in separate products for the face and neck/décolleté. Do the [chest] and up when treating the face and jawline and down when applying product to your body—that way the neck gets double treatment.”
For the Hamptons client: “I’m offering body treatments with vitamins A, C, and E, for when skin is dehydrated from the sun. We think vitamin A makes us sun sensitive, but with certain types this is actually not the case—it strengthens the skin. I will be changing a few minds these four weeks in Sag Harbor!” July 31–August 27, by appointment, 214-812-9488
