Robin Thicke made 2018 the year of announcements. He announced the birth of his daughter Mia, revealed he was expecting his third child in 2019 and finished off the year with a surprise engagement to girlfriend April Love Geary. The 24-year-old model posted on Instagram a video of the moment captioning it, “YES YES 1000x YES.” And now Thicke is opening up about the big moment.
“I was planning it for a little while,” he told us. “We're both very family oriented, so I figured doing it around the holidays with her mom and dad there, and my son was sitting right next to me just felt right. We were lucky to have a lot of our family home in Los Angeles. So, we just all got together and had a beautiful few days.”
In the clip, Geary can be heard saying, “Are you serious,” and the 41-year-old singer revealed she was genuinely shocked. “She didn’t see it coming,” he said. “It was a total surprise for her.”
When asked if he got anything special besides a fiancée for Christmas, Thicke said all he wanted was to be with the ones he loves. “For me, the best present is just family time,” he said. “My son was there happy, and it was our first Christmas with Mia. We were just enjoying all the little things that come along with parenting on Christmas.”
And just how the star closed out the year with a bang, he’s also starting 2019 with one. Thicke is set to perform at the Marriott Marquis New York New Year’s event inside the Broadway Lounge overlooking the world-famous celebration. “I’m so excited,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to be in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.”
Thicke will be joined by other performers including Aliana Lohan and Niykee Heaton with New York Giants Football player, “Dancing with the Stars” champion Rashad Jennings emceeing. “It’s going to be a great night,” said the five-time Grammy-nominated recording artist. “I can’t wait to perform with my band in the center of it all.”
