Bridgehampton restaurateur Pierre Weber reimagines the beloved Sagg General Store.
Pierre Weber’s signature Citroën will be an even more familiar sight on the East End now that the restaurateur is opening a gourmet market in Sagaponack.
Who else but restaurateur extraordinaire Pierre Weber could have revived the iconic Sagg General Store in Sagaponack? “Almost everyone has a childhood memory of that shop,” says Weber one morning while surveying the renovation, energized by last year’s launch of the intimate and exclusive lounge Upstairs, above his namesake eatery. As famous for his Franco-American cuisine as for the yellow Citroën 2CV parked in front of his Bridgehampton restaurant, Weber, a fifth-generation pastry chef, is building a chic gourmet market for organic, health-conscious gastronomes. The new Pierre’s will be open every day of the year from 7 am to 7 pm. Breakfast will include croissants bien sûr, smoothies, fresh juices, and a wide range of teas and coffee drinks. In the back of the 2,000-square-foot market, a rotisserie will churn out roasted chicken and rack of lamb, but also grilled fish.
A whole section of prepared foods, including salads, smoked salmon, pâtés, charcuterie, and cheeses, is bound to tempt local hosts. Up front, shirts, sarongs, and tote bags emblazoned with Weber’s colorful logo will cozy up to the international newspaper stand. Ever the accommodating host, Pierre’s will also deliver at set hours to Sagg, Gibson, and Peters Pond beaches. 542 Sagg Main St., Sagaponack, 296-8400
