There are more than flowers blooming at Keith Pierpont's Pierpont Blossom Farm.
“One of my most favorite is peonies,” says Keith Pierpont when asked about his favorite flower. But then he quickly adds, “I also love hydrangeas… and dahlias... and ranunculus… and garden roses.”
It was perhaps an unfair question to ask someone who has spent his entire professional life in the flower business. After working in New York City for a florist and as the head of a special-events company, Pierpont decamped to the East End and purchased farmland in Wading River in 1998. Now encompassing 13 acres, Pierpont Blossom Farm provides cut flowers throughout the Hamptons and at farmers markets from West Hampton to Montauk.
Although it was planning a retirement party for General Electric CEO Jack Welch that spurred Pierpont to move east (“I worked for 36 hours straight and blew a gasket”), he still loves entertaining and organizing events. He and his wife, Anastasia Casale, owner of the Sag Harbor Florist and Gift Shop, recently launched Sapore e Fiore (“flavor and flower” in Italian). Up to 12 guests pick flowers from the farm, then receive a lesson in flower arranging, while Pierpont (also a gourmet cook) prepares them a five-course dinner, paired with wines by a local vintner. Says Pierpont, “Cooking, flowers, then music are my first loves.” Pierpont Blossom Farm flowers are available at farmers markets throughout the Hamptons.
