The Breast Cancer Research Foundation's Paddle & Party for Pink brings fitness and fun to the Hamptons.
Laird Hamilton and his wife, Gabby Reece, will be paddling with a purpose when BCRF’s annual Hamptons summer fundraiser returns.
"As professional athletes and fitness experts, my husband, Laird Hamilton, and I are constantly thinking about health—how to improve it and, just as important, why it should be valued. Every day, we see how physical activity doesn’t just improve your body, but your heart and mind as well.
I wasn’t surprised to hear Maria Baum’s story, but I was deeply touched. She told us that after her breast cancer diagnosis, she would row out on her stand-up paddleboard and ‘talk to Laird’—the name emblazoned on her board—as a way to deal with the emotional upheaval of her diagnosis.
When Maria asked us to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, we didn’t hesitate. We’ve attended BCRF’s Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink for several years now, and it’s an incredible pleasure to support the event. “This year, we’re hosting an XPT lifestyle experience at the Surf Lodge in Montauk, August 7–9, where we’ll share our daily habits to improve health.
It’s going to be an incredible weekend in the Hamptons—supporting BCRF to advance lifesaving research, aptly followed by our XPT experience focusing on health improvement as a way of life. What better way to celebrate the very gift of life?” The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink will be held on Saturday, August 6, with the SUP race at Havens Beach at 8 AM, followed by a Sunset Party at Fairview on Mecox Bay, Bridgehampton, at 7 PM.
