Chef Michael Chernow's Montauk-in-the-city seafood spot nets an actual Montauk outpost, Seamore's at the Breakers.
Tell us about Seamore’s. It’s a fun, sustainable seafood restaurant born in Nolita. We call our food superfresh, highquality classics: fish tacos, fish sandwiches, simply seared fish, awesome small plates, and delicious salads. We have a fun beverage program that mimics our food menu— simple, fresh, delicious.
The Breakers is classic Montauk. Absolutely. The location is a dream come true, the perfect spot for our brand. It’s a bit off the beaten path, directly across the street from the beach, has the most incredible view of the ocean, and simply screams good vibes.
Is your new place kidfriendly? The Breakers has been a haven for families for decades; we plan on keeping that culture alive. We’d love to be the go-to spot for families all day and into the evening.
What do you love about Montauk? Some of my fondest memories as a kid took place here. I also worked in the Hamptons in my late teens and early 20s behind the bar at different places. My happy place is the beach at either 6 am for surf casting or around 6:30 pm in late July. Finn, our son, loves fishing, so you can typically catch us out there early in the morning across from the Breakers.
Will we be eating any fish you caught? I wish I could say yes! But no, I could get into a lot of trouble for that. However, you will be eating fish caught by the incredible fishermen of Montauk. 769 Old Montauk Hwy., Montauk, 631-668-2525; seamores.com
