Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine keeps her East End wear funky, unconventional, and low-key just like the blogger herself.
When Leandra Medine, founder of Man Repeller—the site that offers a tongue-in-cheek take on everything from style to politics—escapes Manhattan for the East End, it is unequivocally her time to disconnect from all that comes with helming a multimedia company.
“Not bringing Man Repeller out East has been a deliberate choice because I really use [the Hamptons] to let go,” says Medine. “Two hours out of the city to feel like you’re definitively on vacation is such a unique luxury.” Medine, who has been summering in Southampton for the past 21 years, keeps her dress like her attitude: relaxed.
"When I’m out East, I don’t bring a single pair of pants with me.” Instead, she pairs Lisa Marie Fernandez high-waisted bikinis from Tenet (91 Main St., Southampton, 377-3981) with a button-down shirt tied up, lace-up sandals from Il Sandalo (12 Jobs Lane, Southampton, 353-3939), and a pair of funky sunglasses.
Dinner at Topping Rose House (1 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Tpke., Bridgehampton, 537-0870), one of Medine’s favorites, calls for “some extravagant version” of board shorts by Rosie Assoulin (Kirna Zabête, 66 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, 527-5794) worn with a crop top and button-down left open.
“The model of clothing is beachy, but the fabric is formal,” she says. “It’s kind of confusing, but in a good way.” However, Medine’s ideal evening is at home with friends and family—“That to me is perfect Hamptons life.”
