Don’t you always feel like summer is coming to its exciting close when those tents go up at Sayre Park in preparation for the Hampton Classic horse show? This is one of the largest show-jumping contests in the US. Held in Bridgehampton over the week leading up to Labor Day, the Hampton Classic is also one of the biggest and most elegant events in our Hamptons social scene and signals the grand finale of high season.
Meanwhile, this weekend’s Authors Night continues to be one of my favorite events of summer. First, there is an amazing gathering near the library in East Hampton Village, with all the participating authors seated with their books, available to sign, and with proceeds going to fund the library. Next, many of the authors break off with hosts into about 20 private dinners.

With our editor-at-large, Michael Braverman, we have the best dinner planned, featuring five fantastic authors who will be welcomed into Michael’s magnificent home, whose architectural centerpiece is a spectacular two-story library. This year our cover star and lead author is the iconic Le Bernardin chef Eric Ripert, whose memoir, 32 Yolks, is a New York Times best seller and a great look into his life.
In addition, this weekend we celebrate Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center and Guild Hall’s spectacular Summer Gala, which will offer an exclusive preview of the exhibition “Aspects of Minimalism,” followed by cocktails and dinner at a private home. Enjoy this busy East End weekend filled with art and culture as we slide into the final weeks of summer leading up to Labor Day and the Hampton Classic Grand Prix Sunday, and I will see you in town!
