When Ravet furniture decided to do a beach-inspired collection, they didn't have to look any further than the East End-approved duo of Jennifery Mabley and Austin Handler.
Just beachy: The Mabley Handler for Kravet collection features cerused oak finishes in hues of driftwood set off by brushed-metal accents. Here, the Howell Canopy king bed, Hayground onedrawer side tables, Privet Lane double bench, and Dappled Light rug in Tusk.
Is this collaboration your first with Kravet?
Jennifer Mabley: Yes. We have been longtime Kravet fabric and furniture customers, and we had been hoping to design a furniture collection for them for years. Two years ago, a fortuitous conversation with our sales rep led to a meeting with Kravet to discuss our ideas for what a Mabley Handler furniture line might look like. Four months later, we presented sketches for our collection, and by the time we drove home from the pitch, we received the green light.
What do you think drew Kravet to your work?
Austin Handler: Mabley Handler is known for a fresh Hamptons aesthetic, a vibrant beach-chic style that’s in high demand. When Kravet was looking to develop a coastal furniture collection, it made sense for them to work with coastal design experts.
What was the idea behind the collection?
AH: The biggest inspiration for us was to bring together a mix of wood, metal, and upholstery in a way that captures the stylish aesthetic of Hamptons design. We developed a collection of seven cerused, quartersawn oak finishes in tones that are reminiscent of driftwood, and added brushed-brass and satin-silver metal accent details. The range of wood, metal, and upholstery combinations creates infinite possibilities for customizing each piece, so the furniture can work just as well in a Manhattan apartment as it can in a Hamptons beach house.
Which fabrics and wall coverings did you use?
JM: They include a curated selection of existing Kravet and Lee Jofa fabrics, as well as grass-cloth wall coverings that we selected specifically to complement the aesthetic of our collection.
When was the collection released, and where will it be available in the Hamptons?
JM: The Mabley Handler Kravet furniture collection premiered at the High Point furniture market this past April and launched in Kravet showrooms throughout the country in May. It’s [only] available to the trade through Kravet’s showrooms worldwide and Mabley Handler.
