For a sprawling new showplace estate in Water Mill, Farrell Building Company finds inspiration in the land itself.
Set on 2.6 acres in Water Mill South and overlooking an agricultural reserve, the 10-bedroom home combines simplicity with sophistication.
When Farrell Building Company erected the 8,600-square-foot home in Water Mill South, the design team sought to harness the windswept light and grace of the surroundings into the finished product. Kristen Farrell, overseeing every detail and finish at 47 Crescent Avenue, wanted to meld the beauty of the natural world with the decadence of every possible luxury.
“I am responsible for the vision behind each one of our spec homes and making the design inspiration come to life,” says Farrell. “With this house, we took great pride in executing a nature-and-nurture theme— creating a simple yet truly sophisticated home with exceptional details in each living area.”
Just as the nearby Parrish Art Museum is influenced by the unique light and space of Water Mill, so this home draws from its surroundings. “This house is special because of the location, and the light coming from Mecox Bay and the agricultural reserve behind the house,” says Farrell. “There is a peaceful feeling to the area, and this led the design of the home.”
The property includes a pool house, heated gunite pool, and spa to maximize outdoor time.
She selected materials that would have both interest and durability, from metals to woods. “The copper bar in the living room is a standout,” says Farrell. “The foyer has a unique whitewash on alternating wood panels, with a tremendous full glass stairway and huge window over the front door. It’s breathtaking.”
Each material is selected with a purpose in mind, and Farrell hopes that the house, as grand as it is, inspires a sense of tranquility and warmth. “The natural finish on the floors combined with the soft limestone fireplaces exudes a calmness that is not the norm in a large Hamptons house. It evokes a feeling of home immediately. That’s always our goal—to make the client feel like it’s home—not just think it.”
It’s no coincidence that Farrell was so keenly aware of the setting when planning the design of the home. Situated on 2.6 acres in Water Mill South, overlooking an agricultural reserve, the property is a gem in and of itself.
“Crescent is a beautiful lane that dead ends at Mecox Bay,” notes Farrell, “and still allows for a walk to Hampton Coffee for breakfast. It’s perfectly situated between Southampton and Bridgehampton.”
Farrell has made a name for creating a Hamptons lifestyle experience, and this property epitomizes that. “The house is ideal for a client who wants the full Hamptons experience of entertaining, lounging in the backyard, walking to the beach, or playing tennis,” she says. “With 10 bedrooms, a pool house, tennis, gym, and theater, it’s summer-ready for play!” 47 Crescent Ave., Water Mill South, is listed for $15.995 million by Andrew Azoulay at Douglas Elliman, 2488 Main St., Bridgehampton, 631-537- 5900; theandrewazoulayteam.elliman.com
