With its very own garden and a curated mix of all things clean and chic, the Goop Mrkt pop-up is a one-stop summer shop. Brittany Pattner, Goop Creative Director, gives us the scoop.
Like a newfangled general store, goop MRKT in Amagansett offers everything you need to live the goop lifestyle—skincare, clothing, home décor, and more.
There has been so much buzz about Amagansett, and we know Gwyneth Paltrow calls it home, so was that part of the reason to open the shop there? Goop has always had a special relationship with the Hamptons, and in particular Amagansett. For years we did a goop summer party in Gwyneth’s backyard, and each season we publish a Hamptons guide with our favorite picks out East. Amagansett was definitely our first choice, so when we found this special little landmark space on Main Street, we were thrilled. The original exposed beams and floor, the garden, the energy… the space has integrity and spirit and felt like the perfect place for goop to call home.
I’ve interviewed Gwyneth several times and she is always true to her mission of finding organic product. Can you tell me a bit about what the store carries? We stocked goop MRKT with everything you might need while spending the summer out East—from beautiful tabletop for outdoor entertaining to nontoxic sunscreen, beach blankets, and bikinis, to gardening tools and wellness essentials. Our clean-beauty apothecary is one of our hallmarks— it’s a tightly edited selection of luxurious, clean beauty and skincare products that we love for summer, from deeply hued Kosås lipsticks to nontoxic selftanner. We’ll also stock our fragrance collection, which is one of the first natural perfumes ever created. And more importantly, it smells wonderful.
And goop by Juice Beauty? Yes, you will find our organic skincare line, goop by Juice Beauty, as well as our goop Fragrance, goop Wellness, and goop Label. Goop MRKT gives people the opportunity to touch and feel the products in real life. Our skincare line is really our take on the products that make up the essential skincare routine: our award-winning Luminous Melting Cleanser, Exfoliating Instant Facial, Enriching Face Oil, Night Cream, Day Cream, and Eye Cream.
The space is a 100-year-old cottage on Main Street, correct? Tell me about the design by Charles & Co. Design Studio. The design of the space was inspired by the hold-everything general stores you find in many English seaside towns. We wanted to bring a bit of Cornwall to the Hamptons while creating a space that felt indigenous.
The gardens and landscape are by artist and Vogue contributing editor Miranda Brooks? The stars aligned on this one. Shortly after finding this place, I called Miranda, and she just happened to be in Amagansett that day, so she popped over to take a look and was as struck by the magic of the space as we were. She understood the English vibes we were hoping to infuse. We were very adamant that the space not be overly manicured. It needed to feel like you stumbled upon a hidden cottage on a strip of bucolic seaside.
It seems akin to an old-school general store. In addition to swim, beauty, and wellness, you’ll have curated picnic baskets? Love that! We’ll have everything you need to create a goop-approved picnic, from our goop MRKT backpack to this gorgeous leather-wrapped cooler from Jayson Home that we’re all obsessed with. You then fill it with fresh herbs, breads, and tomatoes from Eli’s.
Tell us about the exclusive items that you will have from Eli Zabar in NYC. We wanted to bring Eli’s back to Amagansett with daily deliveries of his breads and baguettes, heirloom tomatoes, and fresh herbs, which have been bringing people back regularly to stock up.
