Everyone knows the old adage: Behind every strong man is a strong woman. But in the case of genetically blessed power couple Nacho Figueras and Delfina Blaquier, replace the “behind” with “beside,” and you have their relationship summed up quite well. Nowhere is that partnership more apparent than in their new campaign for Ralph Lauren Romance ($78) and Summer Romance ($78), a lighter, zestier version of the white musk and rose original fragrance.
Figueras, long the face of Ralph Lauren’s scents for men, shares billing for the first time with wife and model-turned-photographer Blaquier in the ads, and you would be hard-pressed to find a more suitable couple to represent a product called Romance: According to Figueras, when he initially laid eyes on Blaquier at a polo match in Argentina more than a decade ago, it was love at first sight.
“Yeah, that’s what he says,” says Blaquier with a laugh, but she admits to having felt the same. “I guess I don’t have to
be embarrassed about anything because we are very lucky
to have each other, to have found each other that way. We’ve been together for 12 years, we have three beautiful children that we love, and we are, all the time, together.”
Bruce Weber photographed the campaign at La Concepción, Blaquier’s family ranch in Buenos Aires, a place that holds much meaning for Blaquier. “That’s where I grew up, and that’s where I hope when I grow old I can still share it with
my children,” she says. “We are a very big family, and we are very close to each other—and when I say a big family it’s because I have 37 cousins just from my father’s side, and those cousins are the ones that I share the farm with.”
Naturally, horses are central to both the couple’s courtship and their livelihood; they also are why the family spends part of each summer out East, where they set up a home away from home during polo season and where Figueras, captain of the Black Watch polo team, goes to work. “I love the Hamptons. It has this magic,” says Blaquier. “We look forward to it every year. Last year we rented a house in Sagaponack, and we had preserves across the street, and my kids love to walk around and bike and explore.”
And how do she and her husband like to spend time when they are together in the Hamptons? “One of the things that I love doing most with Nacho when we have our alone time together is to drive. We love to drive,” she says. “Last year
