Author of fashion-set favorite The Devil Wears Prada Lauren Weisberger is back with a brand-new beach read, When Life Gives You Lululemons, about beloved first assistant Emily Charlton.
Why did you focus on Emily in When Life Gives You Lululemons? LAUREN WEISBERGER: It was exciting to put Emily at the center of the action this time. She says what we’re all thinking butare too polite to say. She has a real problem with boundaries and social niceties, which basically translates to ‘The Most Fun Character to Write Ever.’
Is there a strong connection between today's media climate and Emily's world in the book? LW: Definitely. Emily is now a combination of a celebrity stylist and an image consultant, so in addition to dressing stars for events, she also cleans up their messes in the press. Obviously, there’s no shortage of inspiration here.
Do you foresee a movie adaptation? LW: I have no idea if it will happen in real life, but a girl can pray!
Do you hope to get Emily Blunt to play Emily Charlton again? LW: Yes, yes, yes. One hundred percent. Times a thousand. Emily Blunt took that character and owned it—she did it brilliantly.
