Alla Prima Portrait Painting with Kerry Dunn Alla Prima is Italian for 'at first attempt'. This is a style of painting that has become fashionable since artists such John Singer Sargent and Richard Shmid exemplified how beautiful it can be. It is basically an oil painting done in one sitting while the paint is still wet, also known as 'wet into wet'. Using this as our parameter, each day the class will paint a portrait of a different model.

Still Life: play of light in & out is a unique take on a classic category, once before admired for the control of the set-up of inanimate objects, focused light source and symbolism. In this course, we will compare the form and energy created from these different sources of indoor/outdoor light.
Whether one is doing an exacting portrait of a significant object or a cubist abstraction of a mysterious material item, it stands that it takes skill and imagination to seize sensual elements of texture, color, and weight. A tea cup and spoon, or a vase of flowers, the exercise of technique along with artistry can bring a seeming illusion, to a visual representation and resonance of complex beauty.
