In 2008, Wölffer Estate Vineyard founder Christian Wölffer made plans to purchase hundreds of acres of vines in Mendoza, Argentina, to start producing wine with Susana Balbo, one of that country’s greatest winemakers. Sadly, just days after their handshake deal, he unexpectedly passed away.
When siblings and co-owners Joey and Marc Wölffer took over the business in 2013, they set out with Wölffer winemaker Roman Roth to honor their father’s dream of producing wine in the land he loved. Teaming up with his old friend Balbo and using Wölffer vines in Mendoza, they have created a light rosé, Finca Wölffer Rosé. Roth is particularly proud of this latest release.
“We specifically chose the vine blocks to be used, and we harvest them earlier,” he says. “Our process is intentional, focused, and results in a wine that has a more vibrant acidity, fresh aromatics, and is elegant and balanced.”
To toast the release of Finca Wölffer Rosé 2016, Wölffer and Roth hosted an intimate Argentine-inspired asado dinner, where John Bjørnen, Gabby Karan de Felice, Shoshanna Gruss, Steven Gambrel, and other guests savored an alfresco feast prepared by Stone Creek Inn, with the colorful flowers and atmospheric décor provided by Ovando. 139 Sagg Road, Sagaponack, 537-5106
