The sighting that trumped all sightings this summer was Justin Bieber, allegedly having his bodyguards rough up a disgruntled reveler at South Pointe Nightclub.
And, of course, our heart goes out to Jennifer Lopez, who had an unwanted guest move into her pool house this summer—not pleasant.
More upbeat brushes with greatness included supermodel Stephanie Seymour and family shopping at Blue & Cream. Her husband, Peter Brant Sr., picked out some colorful custom sneakers. Also spotted at Blue & Cream: Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin doing some sweet family shopping, and Casper Smart (J.Lo's main squeeze) snapping up some smart sunglasses.
Sunday, August 25:
Osteria Salina got starry with diners including Kelly Ripa, Rachel Zoe, and Billy Joel. And Mary-Kate Olsen cozied up to her French beau, Olivier Sarkozy, while eating alfresco.
Saturday, August 31:
With her daughter on keyboard, Patti Smith played a twilight set at The Surf Lodge, wowing locals including BLK Denim designer Johan Lindeberg.
Sofia Vergara and Nick Loeb were meanwhile mobbed by fans at Sunset Beach.
And in Southampton, Amar’e Stoudemire partied on until the wee hours at 75 Main.
Sunday, September 1:
A preggers Rachel Zoe and husband Rodger Berman celebrated Zoe's birthday at Georgica for the third year running. The two—who met and became engaged on the East End—were accompanied by Zoe's parents and a long table of friends, including Georgica owner Antonio Fuccio and Calvin Klein's Malcolm Carfrae.

Matt and Annette Lauer attend the 38th annual Hampton Classic Grand Prix (photo: Sonia Moskowitz/gettyimages.com)
The stakes were sizable in Bridgehampton on Sunday at the 38th annual Hampton Classic, with a $250,000 FTI Grand Prix and FEI World Cup Qualifier, a qualifying competition for the 2014 Longines FEI World Cup Final in Lyon, France, next April.
And not only is the Classic a premiere American jumping derby, the star caliber at the event appears to have skyrocketed now that so many celeb children ride—namely Sascha Seinfeld and Romy Lauer, who, according to dad Matt, is a "reserve champion."
As I drove up to the will-call booth, I noticed Nick Loeb hopping out of his car to pick up his tickets. And sure enough, his gal pal Sofia Vergara was in tow.

Chill out with Gurney’s Inn Resort & Spa oceanside wait service. (photo: Oleg March)
The 87-year-old Gurney’s Inn has reinvented its 1,100 feet of private, pristine beach with a brand new beach club, channeling the energy of the French Riviera or the Amalfi Coast right here on Montauk Beach. New owner George Filopoulos claims the concept is long overdue for escapists out East. “Redefine what you expect when you are on vacation,” Filopoulos says of his objective for the new resort concept. “Spend the day rejuvenating on an incredible private beach while being waited on, or learn kite boarding. Choose a location with a musical backdrop or the sounds of the crashing waves.”
Not to be outdone by Montauk’s stunning natural surroundings, the kitchen doles out full raw bar offerings and freshly caught lobster that can be ordered for delivery right to the beach, where hungry loungers rest uninterrupted on daybeds, sipping cocktails or chilled rosé as part of a relaxing afternoon in the waning sun. Resident DJs spin on Saturday and attract the nightlife crowd, while more relaxed Sunday nights are accompanied by live music and bonfires. The Gurney Inn Beach Club runs through September. 290 Old Montauk Hwy., Montauk, 668-2345

Simulated gem silvertone cuff bracelet, Fern Finds: HSN ($60).
Esteemed Hamptonite, founder of New York Fashion Week, former executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and former SVP of IMG Fashion, Fern Mallis added designer to her impressive CV last fall with the release of an accessories collection, Fern Finds. The concept occurred to her after she continually received the inquiry “Where did you get that?” The admitted accessories addict confesses, “I find myself wearing the beaded drop station necklace almost every day with the multicolor hoop earrings and wide silver cuff. Why wear just one piece when you can wear three or four?”

La Fondita's tacos can be ordered with chorizo, shredded beef, roasted pork, chicken, or vegetables. (photo: Eric Striffler)
Owner Mark Smith’s colorful Mexican taqueria La Fondita in Amagansett has been serving up authentic tacos, tortas, quesadillas, and burritos since 2001. The venue’s popularity is no doubt credited in part to the legions of celebrity fans that tout the Slow-Cooked Pork Tacos al Pastor and Esquite (traditional Mexican corn-off-the-cob with red peppers, onions, cilantro, mayonnaise, queso fresco, and chile powder). “It offers a real casual place where they can go with their families,” says Smith of the famous faces, including Mario Batali, Matthew Broderick, Gwyneth Paltrow, Justin Timberlake, Jessica Alba, Naomi Watts, and Liev Schreiber, who swear by his tortilla soup and watermelon agua fresca. “People don’t make a big to-do [here],” he says. “There’s an anonymity to it.” 74 Montauk Hwy., Amagansett, 267-8800
