Open Closet: Kiran Rai of Sir Alistair Rai

August 01, 2012

Kiran Rai, the New York-based creative director behind celebrity-beloved brand Sir Alistair Rai, spends time out East and travels extensively come summer. Great accessories are key in Kiran’s on-the-go wardrobe, especially flexible pieces like scarves. Indian-inspired pops of color and intricate patterns also take center stage, as do vintage accessories. Below, Kiran opens her closet in a unique way, laying her clothes out as if planning to pack for a trip, and shares on her summer style secrets.

"My summer style is definitely beach chic—relaxed, flowy, and comfortable clothes. Scarves are essential during the summer because I can wear them as sarongs and skirts at the beach, but can also throw them on as wraps on cool summer nights or even wear as a dress and style with a great belt."

Keri Glassman's Nutritious Life Tip: Pamper Thyself with Refresh Body

July 30, 2012

Every other week on Hamptons-Magazine.com, I’ll focus on one pillar of a Nutritious Life, and give you a Nutritious Life Tip (NLT) Hamptons-style. Last time was all about Stress-Less Hostessing, now we’ll focus on how to Stress Less...especially when hostessing a party.

Pamper Thyself: Pampering yourself isn’t just about escaping the world and having fun. There are actually many mental and physical benefits from a day at the spa. Giving your body time for rest and recovery from a hectic and busy schedule doesn’t just leave you feeling super-charged and ready to take on the world—it also truly makes you healthier! Studies show it can improve mood, allow for better concentration, and even lower blood pressure.

Even little things, like a mani/pedi or taking time for a five-minute face mask allow you to reap the benefits. Despite the importance of some quality R&R, people often feel “guilty” about taking the time. Research shows we are one of the top “vacation-deprived” countries and 70% of Americans don’t use all of their vacation time. Get on it! Schedule in some YOU down-time NOW! Out of the 1,440 minutes in your day, you can take a few to spend solely on yourself.

NLT Hamptons-Style: If you're still using the excuse that you’re too busy to fit in some pampering time, excuses be gone! Available in the Hamptons (from Westhampton to Amagansett), as well as NYC, Refresh Body brings you all your favorite elements of the spa, right to your front door. They make it possible to get a massage after a long beach day and test your flexibility with a yoga class; all in your very own home.

Refresh Body’s services are available from 9 AM-10 PM and booking can even be done the same day. Sore from surfing or playing beach volleyball? Schedule a massage on your way home. New girls’ night activity? Try a group yoga class in your living room. It truly is the perfect service to pamper yourself. 212-242-4379

Kyle Richards Spills on Super Saturday, New Store Kyle by Alene Too

July 27, 2012

Kyle, you and I first met at our party celebrating Andy Cohen’s Hamptons magazine cover last summer. I absolutely loved chatting with you and, of course, a whole lot of what we talked about was fashion. Cut to this summer—let’s talk serious shopping. It’s the 15th anniversary of Super Saturday, the fashion event to end all fashion events, and you’ve just opened your Kyle by Alene Too boutique in Beverly Hills yesterday. You are all about shopping for a cause; I saw the good you did with HipSwap.com. So let’s talk about your first time at Super Saturday, and the great good this event does for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

What brands/happenings at Super Saturday are you most looking forward to?
KYLE RICHARDS: I am looking forward to seeing what Super Saturday is all about. I think it’s a great cause and love so many brands that are going to be there, and that our store carries.

Tell me your favorite booths.
KR: Alice and Olivia, J Brand, Minnie Rose, Nicole Miller, Ramy Brook, and Robert Rodriguez.

What are your tips on what to wear to the event?
KR: People who have never been don’t realize that you have to try things on very quickly right in front of everyone! So, anything comfortable and easy to take off. You might want to leave your Spanx at home.

Who will you shop for there? For me it’s all about great kids clothes for my daughter. You?
KR: Looking for my daughters but definitely me, of course. I’m keeping my sisters and girlfriends in mind as well.

This year you have your own booth at Super Saturday. What can we expect to find there?
KR: A great selection of the diverse clothing that we carry in our store—anything from casual to dressy, and it’s a little bit of everything for everyone. This will allow people to get a feel of what we sell at the store and online.

Let’s talk about this fashion endeavor. Your store, Kyle by Alene Too, opened yesterday. What can we expect from it?
KR: All of the best brands and designers—there is something for everyone. You can buy a cocktail dress for an event or jeans and t-shirts for the daytime. I can honestly say we have the best boutique in Beverly Hills.

Kyle by Alene Too offers personal shoppers, and appointments at the store OR customer's homes…why the emphasis on concierge services?
KR: Our store is not just for celebrities who are used to having things bought for them, but for everyone who needs help putting looks together that fit their style.

You live in California. What do you see as a similarity between Cali and Hamptons style?

KR: People in the Hamptons wear more colors like us LA girls, whereas NYC people tend to avoid color. I love that everyone in the Hamptons dresses relaxed yet elegant.

What are your Hamptons styling tips?

KR: Always have a great pair of sunglasses, colorful tunics to wear with white pants, and of course, a high-heel or wedge.

Since you’re constantly on camera, what are your tips for looking camera-ready at Hamptons parties?

KR: Make sure your hair looks good, and always have a great pair of sunglasses and a beautiful caftan since there are so many parties during the day.

Trina Turk Frock Perfect for Supporting Summer Games

July 27, 2012

Starting tonight, the world’s best athletes will go head to head in the London Summer Games. You may not be able to make your way across the pond to show your red, white, and blue pride, but you can wear your support for team USA in the St. Petersburg Dress ($363) by Trina Turk

White polka-dots contrasted against bright red and brought together by a cinched waistline lend this dress a retro feel, while a keyhole cutout adds a touch of modernity—just the thing to celebrate the traditional yet cutting-edge Games.

Really pledge your allegiance to the US teams by accessorizing with blue earrings or decorating your wrists with a stack of blue bangles. 79 Main St., East Hampton, 324-7075
