Outfit Inspiration: A Retro Swim Look

May 28, 2012 | Style & Beauty

It’s official: Swimsuit season has begun. Perhaps it’s the various resort towns, from Sag Harbor to Southampton, that inspire the demand for more and more fashionable swim looks, but designers and retailers alike have been paying more attention to midriff-baring bikinis and beach totes—and we are happily taking notice.

This summer is about showing some skin; from retro-inspired graphic styles to classic monochrome suits with delicate details. Samantha Greenes of Blue & Cream recommends “picking a graphic print that you love, adding a pop of color with a pair of bright hued cut-offs and circular shades to round out this Mad Men–inspired retro look.” Keeping in mind the need for a figure-flattering piece, Greenes adds, “Retro-inspired swimwear is on trend this summer because classic shapes like the bra-cup bikini top and high-rise briefs are very flattering for a wide range of figures.”

Sport this fresh, carefree look while sunning yourself poolside in Sagaponack or mellowing out in Montauk.
