Q&A With: Refresh Body’s Mark Brycman

July 23, 2012 | Style & Beauty

When it comes to helping Hamptonites decompress and relax during the busy summer season, Refresh Body (212-242-4379) has the East End covered. Providing one-on-one consultations to guarantee the highest quality massages, the seasoned therapists cultivate long-term relationships with their clients, creating a sense of familiarity and intimacy during each session. Below, managing partner Mark Brycman shares why the spa’s at-home, custom-designed massages are ideal for groups, couples, or individuals looking to treat themselves to a couple hours of serenity.

What do you think is the benefit of offering at-home massage and wellness services?
MARK BRYCMAN: Beyond the obvious convenience factor, in-home massage allows the client to experience a completely customized and tailored treatment. The therapist takes the time to address client issues and concerns. The client is also completely comfortable and relaxed as they are in their preferred setting—their home.

There are different levels and types of massages offered; how do you assess which is best for a client?
MB: The levels are based on seniority with the company. By nature, the therapists who have been with us the longest have less availability due to more bookings, so we adjust the price to reflect that demand. We offer a broad menu of massage modalities that clients can choose from, ranging from standard Deep Tissue and Swedish massages, to the more eastern Shiatsu and Thai massages. We also incorporate essential oils into every treatment, along with hypoallergenic oils, lotions, and crèmes. Our team is trained to consult with each client prior to the session and find out what they are looking to get out of the massage and proceed accordingly.

Once you book an appointment for a massage, do you need anything specific?
MB: The beauty and luxury of our service is that you don’t need a thing. We bring everything to you.

Between the wellness services and massages, which is the most popular with clients for summer in the Hamptons?
MB: Massage is the most popular. Many of our clients have terrific homes and do a lot of entertaining during the summer, so we frequently accommodate large parties or groups for daylong massage sessions.

Aside from Refresh Body, what other health/wellness spots do you love in the Hamptons?
MB: Provisions (7 Main St., Sag Harbor, 725-3636) is a great organic café, along with Organic Avenue (28 Jobs Lane, Southampton, 283 2600), and Barry’s Boot Camp (325 Montauk Hwy., Wainscott, 537-2668).

Can Refresh Body services help you get swim ready?
MB: Of course! Swimming is one of the most cardiovascular exercises you can do and involves virtually every muscle group, so massage allows the muscles to regenerate and revive faster as well as helps circulation. Further, massage helps alleviate and prevent potential cramping.
