Keri Glassman's Nutritious Life Tip: Get-Gorgeous Cocktails for July 4th

July 03, 2012 | Style & Beauty

Every other week on hamptons-magazine.com, I’ll focus on one pillar of a Nutritious Life, and give you a Nutritious Life Tip (NLT) Hamptons-style. Last time was all about Eating Empowered, now we’ll focus on July 4th cocktails that will have you looking and feeling your best:

Drink Up: We all know what can happen when you have a few too many cocktails—slurp too many calories, make memories you’d rather forget, and feel less than stellar the next morning. Although overindulging in alcohol can have its pitfalls, enjoying just the right amount can leave you feeling happy, healthy, and even beautiful. Certain foods can improve the appearance of your skin and hair, and by incorporating them into your July 4th cocktails, you can become a true beauty from the inside out. What a fun and refreshing way to give yourself better skin by Labor Day.

NLT Hamptons-Style: What sounds more refreshing than an ice-cold drink on a hot afternoon on Main beach or by the pool at The Capri? Not a lot, unless the drink you’re sipping on happened to be one of my beauty cocktails. These libations will leave you looking fabulous not only from your hot swimsuit, but because of your glowing skin and shiny, silky hair. The beautifying secret behind these seasonal drinks comes from a list of ingredients that keep you looking and feeling your best.

Not only are these cocktail recipes red, white, and blue, but they are also packed full of these beauty-friendly ingredients:

Berries and cherries: Plump, juicy, and sweet, they not only taste delicious, but also are great for your beauty regimen! They’re full of antioxidants, your skin’s allies against aging, which keeps your skin looking great.

Jalapeños: Also beauty-friendly, jalapenos are full of vitamin C, which helps prevent wrinkles and damage from long days in the sun. In addition, hot peppers can even help reduce appetite and increase metabolism.

Pomegranates: Pomegranates help in the production of elastin and collagen, key components in keeping the skin looking plump! Pomegranate oil can also help fight off acne and repair cuts and scrapes on the skin, making this fruit a true beauty saver.

Pineapple: Besides being a symbol of good luck, pineapple is high in manganese, a nutrient that helps keep skin from showing signs of damage, such as sunspots. Manganese also helps your bones stay strong and healthy, so you can get out there and strut your stuff!

Apples: Apples have anti-inflammatory properties that prevent skin from appearing puffy…just as you don’t want to look puffy in your bathing suit, who wants a puffy face to match?

Tequila: Used for centuries, tequila is a skin healer than can remove dirt and other toxins, keeping skin clear.
