Tequila Steals the Show

Whatever we ultimately decide to do this Fourth of July weekend, we’re hoping at some point, somehow, the itinerary will include one of these lovely, refreshing tequila cocktails using Don Julio Blanco. Whether you’re after something simple—like this nearly perfect margarita—or eyeing something a bit more involved—pineapple! grapefruit!—these two tipples definitely stand on their own and are sure to please. (How’s that for independence?) Mix some up….
FRESH AGAVE MARGARITA
1½ ounces Tequila Don Julio Blanco
½ ounce fresh lime juice
½ ounce agave syrup
1 lime wedge
Salt for rim
Combine the tequila, fresh lime juice and agave syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Rim a highball glass with salt. Strain the mixture into the glass and garnish with lime wedge.
PINEAPPLE WAVE
1½ ounces Tequila Don Julio Blanco
3 pineapple chunks
1 pink grapefruit wedge
2 mint sprigs
1 teaspoon agave nectar
1 egg white
1 grapefruit twist
3 pineapple leaves for garnish
Muddle the pineapple, grapefruit, mint and agave nectar in a cocktail shaker. Add the tequila and egg white and shake well. Add ice and shake again. Squeeze the grapefruit twist into a martini glass to coat it with the oils. Strain the contents of the shaker into the glass and garnish with pineapple leaves.
