East End Sweets: Down-Home Desserts at Townline

Townline BBQ may be known for smoky ribs, burnt ends, and deep-fried macaroni and cheese, but its desserts are something to talk about as well. Currently there are five sweets on the menu, each small and tidy enough to pack for an afternoon on the beach.

This chocolate whoopie pie sandwiches dense, dark chocolate cookie-cake halves with sticky marshmallow filling. It’s like a s’more and a cupcake, but less messy.

Find more chocolate in the German chocolate cake, layering rich chocolate cake with a generous slathering of coconut-pecan frosting. Also on the cake side of the menu is the Icebox cake, a frozen parfait of chocolate pudding and crushed house-made graham crackers.

Savor every spoonful of this classic banana pudding, made with vanilla wafers and fluffy house-made pudding. The flavors are pure and more refined than what you'd expect to find at a barbecue joint, so dive in.

Last but not least is the fried apple pie. Eaten in three bites or less, the pie packs fresh cinnamon-apple filling in a pocket with perfectly-crimped edges. Deep-fried and dusted with sugar, it’s the epitome of summer. Just don't forget the napkins.
