My South Fork Favorites: Katie Lee
July 23, 2012 | At Home
When you spend all year in the Hamptons like Katie Lee, you naturally get a handle on the best places all over the South Fork. And the famed culinary expert, acclaimed home entertainer, avid surfer, and author of novel Groundswell ($25 on Amazon.com) doesn’t just have an opinion on restaurants and top surfing spots.
Below, Katie Lee lets us in on everything from her favorite places to shop to her renowned Labor Day soiree.
Favorite Restaurant - I love Dave’s Grill (468 W. Lake Dr., Montauk, 668-9190). The food is fantastic and just the type of fare you want to eat in the summer. I almost always order the cioppino.
Favorite Nightlife - I prefer to hang either at my house or at a friend’s rather than go out. I’m a homebody!
Favorite Event of the Summer - I have a big Labor Day party every year that I always look forward to, but it’s kind of bittersweet, since it marks the end of the summer season. Starting Memorial Day weekend, I have anxiety because I don’t want the summer to go by too quickly!
Favorite Farm Stand - You’ll find me at Green Thumb (829 Montauk Hwy., Water Mill, 726-1900) almost every day of the week. I load up on their homegrown organic veggies to make juices, lettuce for salads, and fruit.
Favorite Place to Shop - If it’s a cloudy day, I like walking around East Hampton and looking in all of the stores.
Favorite “Best-Kept” Secret - I’m not sure if it’s a secret, but the fried chicken at Citarella (2209 Montauk Hwy., Bridgehampton, 537-5990) is my secret weapon for last-minute lunch guests. I pick up a bucket, steam some corn on the cob, and make a quick salad.
Favorite Place to Surf - Since surf spots change almost daily, I rely on the guys at Flying Point Surf School (220 Hampton Road, Southampton, 516-885-6607) to take me to the best locations. They are the best instructors in the Hamptons!
Other Hamptons Favorites - Sagtown Coffee just opened in Sag Harbor (78 Main St., Sag Harbor, 725-8696) and they have the best coffee. They are serving La Colombe brew and it’s delicious.
