For summer days spent out East—whether it’s an afternoon at the marina in Sag Harbor or a gallery event in East Hampton at night—looking pulled together is a must. Perhaps nobody knows that better than Alexandre Daniel, who brought the laissez-faire style of St. Barth’s to Southampton by way of his store Sunbarth. “In the Hamptons, the understated, crisp look goes a long way,” says Daniel. “It reminds me of Deauville—nautical with a twist.”
It is that perfect balance that is essential for sophisticated men’s beachwear out East. Michael Bastian exemplifies the look, with mixed prints and solids in the popular seasonal color combination of red, white, and blue. Try pairing a solid swim trunk from Vilebrequin or Sundek with a striped sweater or polo shirt; then add some layers to create a cool, crisp look head to toe. Daniel brought his favorite swim trunk label Sundek back to the US, specifically noting how in Italy, fathers and sons were often seen wearing the line. “It looked so good and sharp with their matching rainbow,” says Daniel. “It’s the cutest thing but not overpowering because Sundek is so simply elegant.”
With the finishing touches, such as a maritime-inspired chronograph and the right pair of sunglasses, this is a look to wear now and always.
