AS THE EXECUTIVE CREATIVE DIRECTOR of J.Crew, Jenna Lyons spearheads the everevolving brand. She recently catapulted it from mere clothing label to a representation of the idyllic American lifestyle. But Lyons doesn’t just design for the carefree life—she lives it as well, often escaping from the city to spend time outdoors with family, especially her son, Beckett. From fishing to farm stands, it’s all in a day’s play!—AMANDA WEINER
Briermere Farms is the first stop en route, for the best berries, homemade pies, scones and a cookie. They also have the most beautiful cilantro and avocados for guacamole. 4414 Sound Ave., Riverhead; briermere.com
From there, we go to Wego Fishing Bait & Tackle to pick out lures and worms. Beckett and Daddy fish all morning on the beach. Every once in a while, we get a big one that makes it to the barbecue. 61850 Rte. 25, Southold; wegobait.com
Frog hunting! Don’t worry—we always throw them back.
Skipping rocks on our beach, which is full of beautiful pebbles. We spend hours having “best ricochet” contests.
Rescuing all of the shells that are broken. We have an enormous collection.
After a day of fishing and cooking, we head over to the carousel in town and ride until we’re dizzy. Antique Carousel, Mitchell Park, Greenport
Our favorite in-town shopping excursion is Beall & Bell, for the perfect random piece of furniture. They have a great eye for the unexpected—and reasonable prices (such a novelty these days!). 430 Main St., Greenport; beallandbell.com
Water balloons!
Watching the boats at sunset with a lemony beer in hand.
Rainy days involve a fire, homemade fireplace pizza and a good old-fashioned game of tag or hide and seek.
