Dads & Grads
So much of our time in the Hamptons is spent enjoying our homes. We design them to be places of comfort and relaxation, and our outdoor environments to be extensions of our interiors. This issue we showcase beautiful dwellings we admire as well as great recipes and ideas for entertaining in your own home.
One property that has always been particularly interesting to me is the Pollock Krasner House in The Springs. In fact, I’m currently reading Lee Krasner: A Biography by Gail Levin, and it is fascinating. Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock completed some of their finest work at the home; they started a great movement in the ’50s and ’60s that brought many other artists out to the East End, which was already well known for its natural beauty.
Our “On the Town” feature spotlights an area about 35 miles from The Springs, the village of Westhampton Beach—how apropos, as my daughter Chelsea and son Julian graduate from Westhampton Beach High School next Sunday. We just returned from the University of Arizona, from where my daughter Brittany just graduated. And the daughter of our own Victoria Henry, Alyx, graduates from East Hampton High School next week as well. We’re so proud of all our graduates this year.
I’m also pleased to have Hamptonite Christie Brinkley on our cover as she finishes her successful run on Broadway as Roxie Hart in Chicago. She recently made an appearance on The View and discussed how she attributes her success to the continuous support of both of her parents. Her talented daughter Alexa Ray Joel continues the tradition and pens the feature on her mother.
We began the summer by sponsoring the kickoff party for committee members of the American Heart Association’s Heart of the Hamptons Gala. Honorees ambassador Charles A. Gargano, Todd Rosengart and emcee (and Hamptons contributor) Rosanna Scotto attended the cocktail party at Bonmarche in NYC’s Meatpacking District. Other notable guests—including Star Jones, Clinton Kelly, John and Terry Tortorella, Jan Rose, Kristina Klug, Elaine and Jim Saladino, Yael Sonia and event director Barbara Poliwoda—will be among the attendees of the gala itself, on July 25 at the Hayground School.
There’s also The Hamptons Golf Classic, celebrating its seventh anniversary on June 27 at Hampton Hills Golf & Country Club. The event brings out many socialites and celebrities, and this year our great partner Gary Depersia will be honored as a leader in the community as we join together for a day on the links to raise money for the Southampton Day Care Center. We can’t think of a better way to put your personal days to use this summer.
Here in the Hamptons, there are many wonderful local organizations to support. Please look at our calendar of events and online at hamptons-magazine.com to see what’s coming up in the next two weeks, including all the galas and special events. That should hold you over until our next issue, for the Fourth of July. Enjoy your blessings, your friends and families—especially all those dads—and I’ll see you in town!
