CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: With my friend Rosanna Scotto (BACK ROW, SECOND FROM RIGHT) and her welcoming clan; they are the first family of the Hamptons. With my husband, David, and our friends Charlie and Lauran Walk—these are two dads who lead hectic lives yet always put their kids first. Richie Notar holds the key to getting a reservation at Nobu but, more importantly, he is a father with another child on the way with his wife, Jane. With Matt Lauer celebrating his Hamptons cover. After our cover shoot he dashed to his son’s Little League practice.
It’s hard to imagine that only one day of every year is dedicated solely to fathers. The role they play in our lives is one I hope we are all grateful for every day. I have always considered myself quite blessed to have a father whom I adore and who adores me and for my husband, David, who is a phenomenal parent to our daughter, Sadie.
Some fathers of note in this week’s issue: winemaker Roman Roth, who writes about The Group for The East End (an organization with which I’m personally involved), celebrating its 40th anniversary benefit this weekend at Roth’s Wölffer Estate Vineyard. Entrepreneur and venture capitalist Chris Burch brought a whole lot of color into our lives when he opened C. Wonder in New York City this past fall. Every time I went into his shop, I thought about how utterly perfect his products would be for the Hamptons. This summer he brings those bursts of color to the East End with his pop-up shop in Southampton.
My husband and I both love Margaret and Geoffrey Zakarian; they have the most beautiful daughters and are always up for a good time—you know when you’re with them you’re going to be sipping fine wine and eating the most soulful food.
This weekend Geoffrey shares a recipe for the quintessential classic lobster roll. Another family very dear to mine, The Scottos, graces the cover of this weekend’s issue. I have known Rosanna and her husband, Lou Ruggiero, for quite some time and soon thereafter met her mother, Marion; father, Anthony Sr.; sister, Elaina; and one of her brothers, Anthony Jr.; and all of their wonderful children. They speak to the essence of family with infectious energy, and in great Italian tradition they show their love through fabulous home-cooked food. This weekend join me in raising a glass of summertime rosé to the great fathers of the Hamptons and all our amazing local families.
