This weekend Bridgehampton Polo’s seasonal six-week run begins. If the Hamptons are known for anything, it is exclusivity, and Bridgehampton Polo—under the new ownership of Nacho Figueras and Peter Brant—will usher in a new era for the game on the East End. While you will recognize the names of players such as Figueras, Brant, Facundo Pieres, Nic Roldan, and our cover star, Chris Del Gatto, as well as the teams on which they play—Black Watch, White Birch, and Circa (of which Del Gatto is also chairman and CEO)—the game will become the focus, and the guest list will be very well edited, focusing on those who appreciate the sport. One thing that will endure from past seasons is the location, despite having the property on the market for many years. (Two Trees Farm is currently listed by Sotheby’s International Realty.)
As we look to polo’s future with great anticipation, in this issue we also reflect on its deep history in the Hamptons. Horse farms still dot the East End landscape, and there’s also the Southampton Polo Club, where we photographed Del Gatto and his longtime girlfriend (and newest collaborator at Circa), Veronica Webb. Their mutual adoration of jewelry and its endless stories is the business behind the team.
Enjoy the polo season. If you get an invitation, you really must attend!
