Entering this most festive season, I always like to take a moment to reflect on everything for which I am grateful. Year-round we have a vibrant community here, filled with loving families and sensational local businesses. Our community rhythm is one of change: The summer season is hot, busy, and filled with people, while the fall and winter months are quieter and glow with incredible natural beauty.

During the holidays, we think about how we can nurture our own families with bountiful gifts, food, and quality time, but we should also consider how we can help make the season a little brighter for those who are less fortunate. Many organizations with local roots make it easy to donate time, money, food, and clothing that can immediately benefit people in need. The Retreat in East Hampton is a great place to volunteer this winter: With a small donation, you can help a mother give her children gifts and, in turn, hope. The Human Resources of the Hamptons food pantry, the largest food distribution organization on the East End, accepts food but also takes most everyday necessities; and Have a Heart Community Trust helps families by providing relief to Hamptonites in emergency situations. Also be sure to check in with your local churches and synagogues to find out how they are supporting our community during this time of the year.

Enjoy these last few weeks of the year, and embrace the quieter winter months ahead. Before you know it, Hamptons will be back for another season. Be grateful for all you have this holiday season, and have a festive and happy New Year. I will see you in town!
