Originally conceived for a bachelor, this home has transitioned beautifully into a functional family space. The warm and relaxed living room overlooks a picturesque Bridghampton polo field providing the ultimate Hamptons backdrop. The polo field sparked my inspiration for this room—a sophisticated barn—by using a mix of contemporary, earthy and textured furnishings along with antiqued wood beam and iron details. A large screened porch connected to the living space through the French doors blends indoor and outdoor living.

It’s a year-round house with design rooted in comfort and natural materials like the Rogers & Goffigon wool chamois used as curtains, custom sofas, vintage leather club chairs from Lorin Marsh and cowhide ottomans. The walls are a pale green plaster that contain straw waddle, enhancing the authentic barn-like feel through a very refined application. I love to play with the juxtaposition of hard and soft, rustic and refined—resulting in well-balanced, comfortable interiors.

This Hamptons retreat is the perfect place to unwind, whether it’s relaxing on the porch in summer or cozying up to the fireplace on a cold winter day. 212-829-0703; davidscottinteriors.com
