Using local ingredients, Fresno executive chef Gretchen Menser creates dishes that are at once clean and alive with flavor. Try the local cod roasted in a clay cazuela with baby bok choy, carrots, shiitake mushrooms and coconut curry broth. Or just stop by for a drink—bartender Diego makes a mean martini (and is very easy on the eyes). 8 Fresno Pl., 324-8700

An East Hampton institution, Sam’s Bar & Restaurant has served pizza and classic Italian dishes since 1947. Locals go crazy for the T-N-T pizza, which comes layered with red onions, tomatoes, garlic, mushrooms, artichokes, sausage, pepperoni and fresh basil. The health-conscious will love Sam’s hearty tricolor salad, and you can get whole-wheat crust on any pizza. It’s no wonder that this is one of the longest-running restaurants on the East End. 36 Newtown Lane, 324-5900

No visit to East Hampton would be complete without a trip to Nick & Toni’s, the quintessential “see and be seen” dining spot. The eatery features three dining rooms plus outdoor seating and is known for its wood-burning oven, decorated in mosaic tiles. The menu offers rustic Italian food made with seasonal ingredients sourced from the restaurant’s organic garden as well as from local fishermen and farmers. Start with the fritto misto, a selection of fried local seafood served alongside shaved fennel, lemon and caper aioli, or opt for the crunchy zucchini chips. If you’re craving pasta, don’t miss the chef’s signature penne alla vecchia bettola—penne served with a spicy, oven-roasted tomato sauce. And yes, that really is Steven Spielberg at the table next to you. 136 N. Main St., 324-3550
