Oh, to be a giant in this floor-to-ceiling sea of colors and design
Quogue’s design shops are one of the best-kept secrets of the Hamptons. Quogue’s compact setting and intimacy is what drew us there as a family years ago and why it remains our go-to summer spot. Summer actually is my busiest time of year, with a business to run and our kids home from school. I suppose a part of me longs for the idealized notion of summertime: free from responsibilities, vacations and heaps of time to squander. The slower pace in Quogue helps satisfy me in this regard. Days are spent riding bikes to the market for a sandwich, catching up with friends at the beach and just appreciating the change of the day-to-day pace of Quogue. The extra bonus is that Quogue is also home to a handful of wonderful design boutiques.
Custom Cool
One of my favorite interior design finds for beautifully crafted bespoke rugs and accessories for the home is Custom Cool. The moment you cross the threshold, your imagination and inspiration take flight. Being surrounded by all the colors, textures and patterns is a form of therapy for the mind, body and soul. One could spend several hours talking to owner and founder Eliza Gatfield about her custom designs and ideas, or milling through the array of specially selected home accessories.
