For most of us, it’s love at first sight when it comes to Angie Harmon. Her statuesque physique bowls us over; her graceful features whip us into frenzies; her confidence and dynamism pin us to our seats. For the average fan, this happens when she pops up on the TV—perhaps back when she starred on shows such as Law & Order, The Women’s Murder Club or Baywatch Nights. Maybe it happened at the movies, as Seraphim Falls, The Good Mother, Fun With Dick and Jane or Agent Cody Banks flickered on the big screen. New devotees to Harmon’s charms have been tuning in—in record numbers—for her new hit show on TNT, Rizzoli & Isles, and we were all wowed by her excellent portrayal of breast cancer activist Lilly Tartikoff in the original Lifetime movie Living Proof (produced by local lovely Renée Zellweger).
But we here in the Hamptons remember Harmon as a regular fixture around these parts for many seasons, lighting up the coolest events and taking in the delights of the East End with her hubby, former New York Giants cornerback Jason Sehorn, on her arm. These days, however, her hectic shooting schedule for Rizzoli & Isles keeps her tied to Los Angeles, where she and her happy brood reside full time. To hear her talk about it, she’s grateful for the work on her plate yet relishes every moment with her three gorgeous daughters. “It’s difficult to balance a 90-hour workweek with raising kids, but we manage,” she insists in her cool, signature rasp. “When I’m working, Jason is with the girls. I have what every mother wants. As a family, we’re really blessed.”
As an actor, she can feel mighty blessed, as well. Rizzoli & Isles—a ratings champ right out of the gate—drew 7 million viewers with its premiere, keeping 5 million into its second week. It’s a record-breaker for sure, a shoe-in as TNT’s next big hit. (Need we remind you of the network’s other ratingsgrabber, The Closer?) The series is based on the novels of Tess Gerritsen, and it thrives on a combination of sharp wit and brain-teasing mystery. Harmon shines as title character Jane Rizzoli, a Boston homicide detective who teams with medical examiner Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) to close the toughest of cases. Lorraine Bracco, Bruce McGill, Lee Thompson Young and Jordan Bridges round out a strong supporting cast.
