For a jewelry designer, there is no greater stage than the grand finale of the holiday parade of Victoria’s Secret Angels. On October 19, the world received the news that London Jewelers, the Long Island–based, family-run jewelry company, had been selected to design this year’s Fantasy Treasure Bra, a $2.5 million aquamarine Custom Gorgeous bra with a scalloped trim. The undergarment includes 142 carats of white and yellow diamonds, pearls, citrines, and aquamarines—approximately 3,400 gems in all—set in 18k white and yellow gold and was worn by supermodel Miranda Kerr during the much-anticipated runway show, which was held at New York’s 69th Regiment Armory on November 9.
“We all thought it was a great project and like nothing we had ever done before,” says family matriarch Candy Udell, who designed the over-the-top bra alongside her daughter, jewelry designer Randi Udell-Alper. “We’ve designed a lot of things, but we’ve certainly never done a bra. We thought it would be a really fun thing to try.”
“We fell in love with London Jewelers upon first meeting them,” says Monica Mitro, Victoria’s Secret’s executive vice president of brand communications and events. “Not only do they have the most exquisite jewels, but they are a wonderful family to work with. I knew they would be the perfect partners to collaborate with on the Fantasy Bra because they make extremely beautiful, original jewelry designs.”
London Jewelers: The Spirit of Giving
The bra is just another milestone in what is proving to be a banner year for the company. This winter London Jewelers is set to open an adjoining bridal boutique at its Americana Manhasset location, called Two by London, that will revolutionize the way couples shop for engagement and wedding rings. “We are trying to reach out to a younger customer that sometimes feels intimidated to walk into a higher-end jewelry store,” says Candy about the interactive boutique, which will allow couples to play an integral role in designing one-of-a-kind pieces and to see each step of the creation process.
