THE ITINERARY
2 PM
Pick up cheeses at Catapano Dairy Farm; the herbed chèvre was the group’s favorite. Michael Braverman treats me to a lemon yogurt. Yum! 33705 North Road, Peconic, 765-8042
3 PM
The Lenz Winery’s rosé is “summer in a glass.” We also tasted its Gewürztraminer, Blanc de Noir and Cuvée (made with 100 percent Pinot Noir grapes) that went beautifully with the Catapano goat cheese that they graciously served to us in their outdoor tasting area overlooking the vineyard. Route 25/Main Road, Peconic, 734-6010
4 PM
Winemaker Anthony Nappa’s multivineyard tasting room The Winemaker Studio just opened last month to much enthusiasm from the community. Formerly the head winemaker at Shinn Estate Vineyards, Nappa began making his own wines in 2007. We tasted his 2010 Anomaly, along with Roman Roth’s Grapes of Roth dry Riesling and Russell Hearn’s Suhru Wines Shiraz rosé. 2885 Peconic Lane, Peconic, 774-641-7488
5 PM
A family-run vineyard full of history and antiquities, The Old Field Vineyards was a vegetable and fruit farm for hundreds of years until the family started to produce wines in 1997. We tasted the Mostly Steel chardonnay, Blanc de Noir and Rooster Tail from cups made from corn compost. 59600 Main Road, Southold, 765-0004
6 PM
Corey Creek was our last stop of the day and with good reason—the infamous Rolling in Dough pizza truck and live music. At this point the tasters were no longer tasting, rather fully drinking 2010 Taste rosé from Corey Creek’s sister vineyard, Bedell Cellars. 45470 Route 25, Southold, 765-4168
